Online Chat

Online chat offers another way for you share thoughts and feelings in a group setting. Chat is simply exchanging one-line messages in real-time with one or more other people. AOL instant messenger is a chat program. For non-BP recovery, you want to chat within a structured chat room, where you can feel confident that the others are there with similar purposes.   

Chat can be good for times when you are dealing with a very difficult situation: a major rage or emotional violence, or acting out behavior. It's like a conference call, but typed. I have never been big on chat, but the chat rooms have helped me out on days when I was really hurting.

Many nons in chosen relationships are isolated. Isolation is a big part of the BPs arsenal of abuse. Chat is a connection with others that some nons are able to use without disclosing it to their SOs. It can be a lifeline for some in tough situations.

Formal Chat Rooms: there used to be one called Tinman's Pub, but I'm not sure it still out there. you can try Helen's BPD Resources site for info on this. 

Also, check BPDCentral. I think there is a chat function there.

Individual Chat: As you get to know people from the support lists or the formal chat rooms, you may choose to chat privately. Most nons use the ICQ chat program, but you can use any one that works for you, like AIM.
